Malavita
Malavita are a three-piece band from the San Francisco Bay Area, active since 2015. The group consists of Tim Garry on guitar and vocals, Ivan Ganchev on drums and vocals, and Nick Mastroianni on bass and backing vocals. Their music moves across rock, jazz, blues, Latin styles, surf music, 1980s pop and metal, and they also play as a cover band alongside their own original material.
Style and repertoire
The band’s sets can shift between covers and originals, with material sometimes crossing over between the two. An original song may appear in a covers set, while a cover may appear unexpectedly in an originals set. Malavita describe their own writing as eclectic and genre-crossing, with a strong emphasis on original material.
Recordings
Their first album, Better Than Satan!, includes speed metal, an Italian-language tango, surf influenced by Dick Dale, samba, jazz, and math rock compositions. The record reflects the group’s interest in mixing contrasting styles rather than following a single genre.
Origin
Malavita is also identified as a German artist with Italian roots from Recklinghausen, Germany.
