Majistrate

Majistrate is a drum and bass and jungle DJ and producer who has been active since 1989 as a DJ and since 1994 as a producer. His early releases appear on Splash Recordings, the label launched by Undercover Agent, a long-time friend and owner of Cyndicut. His first 12-inch release, Open Circuit, appears in 1994, and he goes on to release more than ten records on Splash, along with additional material on the sister label Juice Recordings.

Early radio and club work

By 1995, Majistrate is playing at major events and appearing weekly on Kool FM. He also appears on Kiss FM and Rude FM, and performs across Europe. His work at this stage includes solo releases, remixes for other artists, and later collaborations with A-sides.

Labels and collaborations

After meeting A-sides, Majistrate releases material on East Side Recordings. He and A-sides also issue tracks together under the name Fate, alongside further solo releases. His catalogue also includes releases on Lucky Spin and Brain Records.

Return to production and later releases

In 2002, after a short break from production, he returns to the studio and works with Nicol, owner of Direct Recordings. Their release Show U is the second release on that label and leads to further studio work together. Majistrate later releases on Urban Takeover, Frequency, which is a sister label of Ram Records, and Frontline, and also appears with a remix on Ganja Records.

Majistrate and Nicol

Majistrate also performs and records with DJ Nicol (UK). Nicol begins on London pirate radio station Pressure FM in 1995, alongside Ruff Stuff, Bizzy-B and Friction, and later hosts a weekly show on Cyndicut FM with MC Eksman. He also has guest appearances from MCs Herbz, Fatman D, 5ive 0 and TC Izlam, and later appears as a special guest with Remarc on Kool FM. Nicol plays at UK events including Innovation, 1Nation, Breakin Science and Battle of the MCs, as well as club shows in Germany, Poland, Austria and the United States. He is co-owner of Direct Recordings, records for Frontline, Urban Takeover and Frequency, and also promotes Direct Recordings nights across the UK and Europe. In 2003, he begins production, with his first tracks alongside Majistrate signed to Frontline, Urban Takeover and Frequency.
