Maisha

Maisha is a London-based group active since 2016, led by drummer Jake Long. The ensemble is associated with spiritual jazz and performs original music that draws on the work of Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders and Idris Muhammad, combining these influences with heavy rhythmic West African and Afrobeat grooves. Long is described as a 2015 Yamaha Jazz Scholar.

The group includes Twm Dylan, Nubya Garcia, Jake Long and Shirley Tetteh. Maisha’s name means “Life”.
