Magic Man

Magic Man is a band from Boston, Massachusetts. It begins in Providence, Rhode Island, around 2009, when Alex Caplow and Sam Lee start as a duo after spending a summer in France volunteering on organic farms. The project grows from a laptop-based two-piece into a five-person band over the following years.

The original line-up adds Justine Bowe, Daniel Radin and Joey Sulkowski, and the group develops from synth-pop into a broader indie pop and indie rock sound while keeping its electronic roots. Caplow and Lee remain the core writers, while Caplow previously plays with gulls, Lee records under the name The Tumbled Sea, and Bowe writes as Photocomfort.

The band’s self-produced debut album, Real Life Color, is released in 2010. It later releases the EP You Are Here. Radin leaves in early 2014 to play with The Novel Ideas and is replaced by Gabe Goodman.

After years of speculation about the group’s future, Magic Man announces its split in August 2019.
