Maeve O'Boyle is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Glasgow, born in 1987. Also known as Maeve “Mona” Monica O'Boyle, she is signed to Linn Records and writes and performs in a blend of melodic pop, folk and rock.
Career
O'Boyle performs from an early age and comes to prominence in 2006, when she is invited to appear at Celtic Connections and wins a Danny Kyle Stage award for new acts. Later that year, she wins the Artist category in the Daily Record National Talent Search. Her early writing work is developed with Gordon Goudie, Ricky Ross and Francis MacDonald.
She builds a live reputation through performances across the UK, including dates with John Cale and Sandi Thom on a sold-out tour. She also appears at The JD Set showcase in London and Glasgow, headlines a sell-out date at Glasgow’s Oran Mor, and later performs at Live at Loch Lomond with Ocean Colour Scene and The Sex Pistols.
Recording
Her debut album, All My Sins, is recorded with producer Calum Malcolm and Stuart McCredie for Linn Records. The album includes contributions from Calum Malcolm, Ricky Ross, Gordon Goudie, John McLaughlin, Francis Macdonald and John McCusker. Her first single is Swimming Upstream.
Collaborators and appearances
She also takes part in acoustic sessions with Eleanor McEvoy, Martyn Joseph, Boo Hewardine and The Mercurymen. Her work is linked with a number of established Scottish and British musicians, including members of Deacon Blue, Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits and other acts named in connection with her recordings.
Recognition
Her growing profile leads to inclusion in The Scotsman “Scots Women of the Year” in 2007, and she is also named by Daily Record showbiz editors as “One to Watch For”.
