Mad Caddies

Mad Caddies are a ska punk group from Solvang, in the United States. They form in 1995 and remain active. Their music draws on punk, ska and ska punk, and also takes in hardcore, swing, reggae and jazz.

History

The band starts as a high school group under the name The Ivy League, with founding members Chuck Robertson, Sascha Lazor, Todd Rosenberg, Carter Benson and James Malis. In 1996, after signing to Honest Don's Records, they change their name to Mad Caddies to avoid confusion with earlier bands using the same name.

Membership changes frequently over time. Todd Rosenberg leaves in 1999, Carter Benson in 2002, and Mark Iversen in 2006. The listed members are Todd Rosenberg, Carter Benson, Sascha Lazor, Chuck Robertson, Mark Iversen, Brian Flenniken, Keith Douglas, Jon Gazi and Eduardo Hernandez.

Recordings

Their debut album, Quality Soft Core, is released in 1997. After that, they sign to Fat Wreck Chords and release four studio albums, one EP and one live album on the label. Their discography also includes Duck and Cover (1998), Rock the Plank (2001), Just One More (2003), Songs in the Key of Eh! (Live from Toronto) (2004), Keep It Going, Consentual Selections (2010), The Holiday Has Been Cancelled and the 2007 Tour EP.

The band releases five full-length albums, one live album and two EPs in total.

Style

The group’s sound is rooted in ska punk, with influences from punk, ska, hardcore, swing, reggae and jazz. Chuck Robertson handles lead vocals, rhythm guitar and primary lyrics, Sascha Lazor plays lead guitar and banjo and writes the main compositions, Keith Douglas plays trumpet and sings backing vocals, Ed Hernandez plays trombone, and Brian Flenniken plays drums and percussion. Cris Badham is also listed as bass guitarist.
