LV & Joshua Idehen
LV & Joshua Idehen are a London-based collaboration associated with dubstep, UK funky, UK garage, electronic music and grime. The project centres on the production trio LV and vocalist Joshua Idehen.
LV
LV are a London production trio made up of Will Horrocks, Simon Williams and Gerv Gordon. They have been making music together since meeting at university, and between them they play a range of instruments. Their sound uses old synthesizers that are kept working in rough-and-ready condition. The trio present their debut album Routes on Keysound.
Joshua Idehen
Joshua Idehen is a London vocalist who first works with LV on the 2010 Keysound 12-inch 38 EP. He appears heavily on Routes, where his lyrics explore euphoria and alienation in relation to London through a series of fragmented journeys. On the earlier EP his vocals are more central, while on the album they are often processed, distorted or absorbed into the production, though in some tracks he still takes a leading role as narrator and witness.
Routes and collaboration
Routes is written and recorded in intensive bursts over a 12-month period. Its music reflects the unsettled and changeable character of the journeys described in the lyrics, ranging from pirate-radio-influenced rhythms to more intimate, reflective passages. The album develops ideas first set out on 38 EP.
