LUXXURY

LUXXURY is a United States electro-rock and electronic group associated with synthpop, electroclash, electronica and disco. The project is led by Baron von Luxxury, who is also a DJ and remix producer.

Style and formation

The group is based around a blend of influences that includes New Order, David Bowie, ELO and Devo, alongside the electronic and dance-oriented sounds of Daft Punk, The Presets and LCD Soundsystem. Its music combines 1980s-influenced Italo-disco rhythms, synthesizers, lead guitars and sardonic lyrics.

Debut album

LUXXURY’s debut album, Rock and Roll is Evil, is built around the story of Sable Starr, the 1970s Sunset Strip groupie. The record is recorded and mixed across Berlin, Los Angeles, Brooklyn and San Francisco, and features an original cover by the artist Jeremy Blake, who also designs the cover for Beck’s Sea Change. It appears on Baron von Luxxury’s own Nolita label.

Reception and radio play

The album gains attention as a future-retro disco and electronica release, and the song “Drunk” is licensed for a Pontiac commercial. “Sweet and Vicious”, “Drunk” and “Sable Starr” also receive airplay on stations including Live 105, XFM, Virgin Radio London and KROQ.

Remixes and production work

As a producer, Baron von Luxxury remixes tracks by Scissors for Lefty, Hilary Duff, Glass Candy, Robots in Disguise, CSS and Dirty Sanchez. These include “Ghetto Ways (Baron von Luxxury’s Super Thanks for Asking Remix)”, “Stranger (Baron von Luxxury Eyes of Laura Mars Remix)”, “I Always Say Yes (Baron von Luxxury’s Sugar and Rye Bread Remix)”, “We’re In the Music Biz (Baron von Luxxury Remix)”, “A la la (Baron von Luxxury New Rave is an NME Con Remix)” and “Really Rich Italian Satanists (Baron von Luxxury’s Pasolini vs. Moroder Remix)”.
