Lux Lisbon

Lux Lisbon are an English indie band that forms in Nottingham University before moving to London. The group writes sweeping, cinematic indie songs and builds its sound around interwoven harmonies and shared vocals from Stuart Rook and Charlotte Austen. Their influences include Dog is Dead, Bruce Springsteen, Bloc Party and The Killers.

Band line-up

The band is a five-piece act made up of Stuart Rook on vocals, songwriting, piano and synths; Charlotte Austen on vocals and bass; Alastair Jones on guitar; Johnny Colgan on drums; and Rob D’Ath on guitar and vocals.

Recordings and releases

In 2012, Lux Lisbon records several BBC Introducing sessions, including performances for Tom Robinson and BBC 6 Music, and for Bethan Elfyn at BBC Wales. In 2013, the band releases the Get Some Scars EP, which gathers together tracks recorded during 2012. The release includes songs that feature in a set of promotional videos, among them an 8-bit zombie apocalypse, several dancing Boris Johnsons and a tribute to Wes Anderson. The band also offers a free download of “Get Some Scars”.

Radio support and press

Lux Lisbon receives support from John Kennedy at XFM, Chris Hawkins at BBC 6 Music, The Fly and Word magazines. Tom Robinson describes “Animals” as a BBC Introducing classic, Sid Griffin praises “Bullingdon Club”, and Chris Hawkins and John Kennedy both make positive comments about the band’s work.

Live activity

The band plays Bestival and Hyde Park during the Olympics, following earlier appearances at Camden Crawl and Dot to Dot. Lux Lisbon tours the UK with a high-energy live show that includes an ambitious visual projection display.

Style

The group is associated with indie, alternative and British music scenes, and their sound is described as epic widescreen indie rock.
