Lute is a hip hop artist from Charlotte, United States. He is also known as Luther Nicholson. Born in 1989, he works in hip hop and southern hip hop and is signed to Dreamville Records.

Career

Lute first appears as a recording artist with the mixtape West1996, which is released in 2012. In 2015, it is announced that he signs to Dreamville, the label founded by J. Cole.

He features on Dreamville’s compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers II on the track “Still Slummin”. The song is also included on his second project, West1996, Pt. 2, which is released in 2017 and serves as his debut album.

Lute gains further attention through his appearance on Revenge of the Dreamers III in 2019. On that album, he appears on “Under The Sun” alongside J. Cole and DaBaby, with a hidden Kendrick Lamar contribution on the chorus. The album goes platinum and receives a nomination for Best Rap Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
