Lunch Money

Lunch Money is a United States indie rock group formed in 2003 by singer and guitarist Molly Ledford, who first sets it up as a live music project for young audiences. Ledford also performs with The Verna Cannon on Cargo/Headhunter. She brings in fellow Verna Cannon member Jay Barry on drums and multi-instrumentalist J.P. Stephens on bass, mandolin and harmonica.

The group’s name refers to the first sense of childhood independence and power. Its songs focus on childhood themes, with Ledford’s writing centred on everyday experiences and imagination, including wanting a pet dog, gathering the courage to ride a roller coaster, and dancing with an umbrella in rain and sun. Her songwriting is described as drawing on memories and images from childhood.
