Luci

Luci is the name used by more than one artist, including a Japanese electronic act, a project by long-time collaborators Guillaume Coutu Dumont and David Fafard, a Nashville-based singer-songwriter with Peruvian roots, a producer and vocalist formerly known as Lucii, and a Charlotte-born artist who records in styles including R&B, hip-hop and trip-hop.

Electronic and dance music projects

Under the Luci name, Guillaume Coutu Dumont and David Fafard work together as a long-running collaborative project. Another Luci uses the name as a new alias for the former dubstep and bass music producer, vocalist and singer-songwriter Lucii, rebranding toward electropop and dance-pop. In that earlier form, she works with artists including Dion Timmer, Sam Lamar, Champagne Drip and Kaivon, and is recognised as a fixture in underground electronic music as both producer and vocalist. She releases music on labels including WAKAAN and Subsidia, and appears on festival lineups.

Singer-songwriter background

Another artist called Luci is a singer-songwriter living in Nashville, Tennessee. Born in Lima, Peru, she spends much of her early life in the United States and grows up in several southern states. Her music draws on Latin, R&B and funk, alongside influences ranging from Celia Cruz and Christina Aguilera to Aerosmith and Stevie Wonder. While studying Music Tech as a minor at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she begins playing guitar, recording her own songs and making first co-writing contacts. Working with producer Kene Bell, she releases the debut EP Live It Up in 2010. She also pauses music in early 2007 to focus on family, later returns to the scene, continues writing with other Nashville songwriters, and develops interests in producing, dancing and dressmaking for her performances.

Charlotte artist LUCI

LUCI, the Charlotte-born and raised artist, describes music as a refuge. Her work blends R&B, hip-hop, trip-hop and other styles. After graduating from Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte in 2014, she moves to Asheville and becomes involved in the local music scene. In 2019 she moves to upstate New York, learns to produce using Ableton and fills notebooks with songs. Material from that period appears on Juvenilia in 2022, including the formal debut single “Ash & Dust,” which is described as an original hip-hop statement. Her 2024 release They Say They Love You explores love, loneliness, perseverance under uncertainty, self-care and coming of age.
