Lubiana is the stage name of Lubiana Kepaou, a Belgian-Cameroonian vocalist and musician from Brussels. Born in 1993, she comes from a family of musicians and has Belgian and Cameroonian heritage.

Early training and musical background

Lubiana begins studying piano, guitar, saxophone and music theory at the age of eight. She later enrols at the conservatory in Louvain, where she majors in singing. Although her mother follows a classical path, Lubiana turns towards jazz.

Career

She first reaches a wider audience at 17 through her participation in The Voice Belgique. In 2018, she opens for Youssou N'Dour on his European tour, including a date in Brussels. She also opens for Zazie at Forest National in Brussels in 2023.

Sound and instruments

Lubiana’s music combines pop and African sounds. She also works with the kora, a West African string instrument, and is described as one of the few women to practise it.

Recordings

Her early releases include the singles Self Love and My Man Is Gone. She releases her first EP in 2020, followed by the album Beloved in 2021 and Terre Rouge in 2024. An earlier release, Glory Box from 2012, is a cover of the Portishead song.
