LSD and the Search for God

LSD and the Search for God is a shoegaze and dream pop group from San Francisco, United States, active since 2005. The project also sits within psychedelic rock and experimental rock territory, and its recordings and performances are associated with fuzzed-out guitars, drone textures, pop hooks, and male/female vocals.

History

The group forms in San Francisco in 2005 and builds an early reputation through live shows in Northern California’s underground psychedelic scene. Their first performances lead to invitations to play with Lilys after a gig with The Morning After Girls, and they are then invited on West Coast tours with Spectrum, featuring Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, and with The Telescopes on that band’s first U.S. tour.

In 2007 the group releases its self-titled debut EP, Mind Expansion. The release sells out through the label and distributor before the official release date and is later reissued on vinyl by Deep Space Recordings in 2008. Around this period, the band also appears on the compilations Mind Expansion Vol. 1, M.E. Vol. 2, and Take Me on the Wildest Spree, a “nugazer” compilation released by Rubber Records, a division of EMI.

Performances and activity

Following the early shows and the success of the debut EP, the group plays a run of West Coast dates, tours in the United States, and a number of festival appearances. It shares bills with Dead Meadow, Martin Rev of Suicide, and DJs Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre, Nick Jago of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Colm O’Coissoig of My Bloody Valentine.

By late 2010 the group goes into a period of limited communication and activity, described as a two-year withdrawal from non-essential contact. The project remains active and is listed as continuing from 2005 to the present.
