Lowell is the performing name of Elizabeth Lowell Boland, a singer-songwriter from Canada who is based in Toronto and London. Born in Calgary, she moves to the Yukon and lives with her father in Carcross, near a mountain that once serves as a route for gold hunters. She later spends time in Massachusetts, Ottawa and Georgia before returning to Calgary and then basing herself in Toronto and London.

Her early life includes a period in a desolate beachside cabin she shares with her father, an experience she says gives her strength. After attracting the attention of Martin Terefe, Sacha Skarbek, James Bryan and Paul Herman, she is invited to Kensaltown Studios in London to write with them. When the material does not match her own direction, the work is set aside and started again.

Lowell then completes the EP I Killed Sara V. and begins work on her full-length debut We Loved Her Dearly, released on Arts & Crafts.
