Love Grocer
Love Grocer is a dub and reggae group centred on the songwriting duo of Chris Petter and David Fullwood. Petter plays trombone, keyboards and bass, while Fullwood plays trumpet and guitar. The project grows out of their work as the main players in the Crispy Horns brass section, through which they appear on many recordings and work both live and in the studio with a wide range of artists and producers.
Background and members
Petter and Fullwood’s involvement in the new roots and dub scene reaches back to the early 1990s. Petter is a founder member of the Conscious Sounds stable and plays with Centry and The Dub Specialists. Fullwood develops his experience with Zion Train and Tassilli Players. The group’s brass line-up is completed by Richard Doswell on alto sax and flute, and Jon Petter on tenor sax.
Production and performance
Production and mixing duties are shared by Dougie Wardrop of Conscious Sounds Studios and Ben Balafonic of Dreadzone. On stage, Ben Balafonic also handles the control tower, while MC Spee adds vocals. The group’s work is rooted in live dub performance as well as studio collaboration.
Collaborations and credits
Love Grocer’s recent credits include work with Mad Professor, Morcheeba, Steel Pulse, The Bluetones, Horace Andy, Zion Train and Dreadzone. These connections place the group within a broad network of reggae, dub and related British soundsystems and live acts.
