Louise Goffin

Louise Goffin is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Brooklyn, born in 1960. She is the daughter of songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Her early recorded work begins in her teens: at 14, she and her sister Sherry provide backing vocals on Carole King’s album Wrap Around Joy, and she also sings backing vocals on King’s Really Rosie in 1975.

Recording career

Goffin’s debut album, Kid Blue, comes out on Elektra/Asylum in 1979, and she later records five major-label albums. She signs to DreamWorks in 1999 through label executive Lenny Waronker and releases Sometimes a Circle in 2002. In 2008 she independently issues Bad Little Animals on her own label, Majority Of One Records, which she launches in May 2008.

She is also associated with the soundtrack to Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where she is the youngest artist featured. Another release, This Is the Place, appears in 1988 and includes the VH1 classic video hit “Bridge of Sighs”. She also records a UK Eastwest set that includes a version of U2’s “Sweetest Thing” with additional lyrics by Bono. Her years living in England from 1984 to 1994 include work on two records while signed to WEA.

Live work and collaborations

Goffin’s first public performance is opening for Jackson Browne at the Troubadour when she is 17. She later plays with several other artists as a side musician, including banjo work with Bryan Ferry in the video for “I Put a Spell on You” and guitar on tour with Tears for Fears in 1997. She also sings on the Gilmore Girls theme song, duetting with her mother on King’s “Where You Lead”.

Other projects

Goffin is a founder and owner of Rocket Carousel Studio in Los Angeles, where artists including Mika, Natasha Bedingfield, Paris Hilton, Katy Perry, OneRepublic and Jamie Cullum record. She shares two children with musician and producer Greg Wells.
