Los Retros

Los Retros is the music project of Mauricio Tapia, also known as Mauri Tapia, from Oxnard, California. The project sits within bedroom pop and indie pop, and it also appears alongside indie pop, psychedelic, indie rock, indie, and California tags. Tapia has been making music since his early teens and records by playing every instrument himself.

Background and name

The name Los Retros is used as an homage to the Chilean pop band Los Ángeles Negros. Before adopting the current name, the project is known as Retrospect. It begins as a duo in Oxnard with Chai and Mauri, who make songs together in Mauri’s living room after high school.

Line-up and development

Over time, the project adds other members. The names that remain associated with the group are Chai, Brayan, Lupe, and Mauri. The music is described as drawing on American and Latin American left-field pop and soft rock from the 1970s and 1980s.

Releases and early material

The project includes a number of tracks that were once on SoundCloud before being deleted. Retrospect functions as an earlier form of the project and as a starting point for later releases.
