Loris

Loris is a name used by more than one act. It refers to a slowcore band from Chicago, an improvising trio, and the DJ and producer Loris Stavrinides, who works in trance and progressive dance music. The artist identified here is a Mexican musician using the name lorisms.

Improvising trio

One Loris project is an improvising trio made up of Daniel Jones on turntable, ebows and electronics, Sarah Hughes on autoharp and piano, and Patrick Farmer on contact mics, wood and whisks, and natural objects. The trio releases its first CD, The Cat from Cat Hill, on the Another Timbre label and it receives favourable reviews. Its approach centres on free improvisation and textural, experimental sound.

Trance and progressive DJ

Another Loris is the working name of Loris Stavrinides, a trance and progressive dance music DJ. He is born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1981 and later lives and works in the UK. He begins listening to trance in 1999 and becomes seriously involved with DJing in 2002. In 2003, he helps organise an event called N.light.N with two friends, and this is the first time he plays in public. The positive reaction leads to more bookings at dance events across Cyprus, where he quickly establishes a strong reputation in the local DJ scene.

In 2004, he is voted 13th in the Cyprus Official DJ Poll after one year of experience. He leaves Cyprus in 2005 to continue his studies as a designer and remains based in the UK. He continues to play guest sets at EDM events and publishes online exclusive podcast mixes under the alias and label HighGlow Music.
