Lord Dying are a metal group from Portland, Oregon. Their sound sits within sludge metal, doom metal and stoner metal, and the line-up includes Wade Murff. The band draws members from Black Elk, Portals, Le Force and Cremains.

Formation and early activity

The group forms in Portland, a city with a strong heavy music scene. They begin as a live band in a short span of time, playing shows with Unsane, Red Fang, Yob and Valient Thorr, among others in their local area. They also tour the west coast twice, first on their own and later alongside Danava and Lecherous Gaze, before taking a co-headlining run with Nether Regions.

Releases and touring

Lord Dying’s first notable release is the self-titled Lord Dying, issued in 7-inch format through Powerblaster Records. They then tour from coast to coast in support of Black Cobra and Gaza, and later join Witch Mountain for a further stretch of direct-support dates. They also go out on a U.S. tour supporting Red Fang and Black Tusk.

The band is associated with heavy riffs and a sound rooted in sludge and doom traditions, with stoner metal also listed among their genres.
