Look Yonder

Look Yonder is a bluegrass and progressive bluegrass group from Nederland, United States. The group is active from 1998 and continues to perform. Its membership includes Jeff Austin, Adam Aijala, Dave Johnston, Ben Kaufmann, Jacob Jolliff, Allie Kral, Nick Piccininni and Coleman Smith.

The name is also used in the material supplied for a solo folk project by Rory Evers, described as a one-man act built around ukulele and voice. In that form, the music is presented as alt-folk with country influences, drawing on lyrical writing and strong vocal delivery, and is associated with themes of love, hope and fantasy.

Early activity

That solo project emerges after a period of relative inactivity and follows a run of difficult earlier projects and band splits. It begins in winter 2011 and appears at open mics and bars around Leeds and the surrounding area during spring 2012, with a small set of demos in circulation.

Style and performance

The solo material is described as short songs with a stripped-back arrangement: ukulele and vocals only. It is presented as distinctive within the local folk scene, with comparisons made to 1960s troubadour songwriting and to Devendra Banhart, while still being framed as separate in character.
