Long Tall Shorty
Long Tall Shorty are a UK mod revival group formed in 1978 by Tony Perfect. They emerge as one of the leading names in the mod revival movement and are associated with mod and punk, with the band also being linked to power pop and new wave.
Early years and live reputation
The group releases the singles “By Your Love/1970’s Boy” and “Win or Lose” among others. Their live performances develop a strong following, helped by residencies at the 100 Club and the Marquee. The band splits in 1982.
Reformation and later activity
Long Tall Shorty reform in 2000 and continue with a fluid line-up. At the time described, the band is a three-piece featuring Tony Perfect on vocals and guitar, John Woodward on bass and Jim Piddington on drums. Their later releases include the albums Completely Perfect, A Bird In The Hand and the rhythm and blues album Women & Trouble.
Style and releases
The band also describes its own newer direction as “Giffer Punk” and takes that sound beyond Soho and central London to parts of Europe. Another album, The Sound Of Giffer Cityy, is issued on Time For Action Records.
