Long Distance Runner

Long Distance Runner is the solo electronic project of drummer and producer Kyle Briggs, based in the United States. Briggs releases music under the Long Distance Runner name through his own Existential Sounds label.

Project overview

Briggs records as a one-person act using a range of instruments together with an Akai MPC 2000XL and Pro Tools. His work is associated with electronic music and draws on production methods used by hip-hop producers and experimental musicians.

Debut release

The debut Long Distance Runner release is The Fire of Cumulative Hours, a limited five-track EP lasting 29 minutes and issued in 2006 on Existential Sounds. It is the first release under the LDR name.

Background and influences

Briggs spends his formative years in Los Angeles playing drums, with influences including Fugazi, Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead. He later turns toward digital production and is also influenced by artists such as The Books, Four Tet, Tortoise and Caribou, as well as hip-hop figures including RJD2, Prefuse 73, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow and Madlib.

Other activity

At the same time, Briggs plays drums for the indie-rock trio Junkface, who release Kill Them with Love.
