London Elektricity

London Elektricity is a London drum and bass and electronica group associated with liquid funk. It is active from 1996 and is made up of Tony Colman and Chris Goss.

Formation and line-up

The project begins in 1996 as a duo. Tony Colman and Chris Goss make an early mark together in 1998 with Song In The Key Of Knife, followed by the debut album Pull The Plug. In 2002 Colman continues the project on his own while Goss focuses on the NHS Empire project. The line-up later returns as a live band featuring Tony Colman and other musicians.

Releases and live work

London Elektricity releases Billion $ Gravy in 2003 and Power Ballads in 2005. The live side of the project develops strongly after a Maida Vale session requested by Fabio and Radio 1, leading to London Elektricity Live. Between Billion $ Gravy and Power Ballads, Tony Colman and the band play more than 150 gigs to a large audience, presenting a live drum and bass show.

Performance and reputation

The act appears at major events including the Big Chill and Glastonbury. It is associated with a style described as “fast soul music”, combining drum and bass energy with soul-influenced arrangements. A live album, Live at The Scala, appears before the band comes to a close for a period, with the project expected to return with new dancefloor tracks and fast soul material.
