LMFAO

LMFAO is an electro-hop duo from Los Angeles, California, formed by rappers Redfoo and Sky Blu. Redfoo is Stefan Gordy and Sky Blu is Skyler Gordy. The group is connected to Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records: Redfoo is his son and Sky Blu is his nephew. It is also described as being from Hollywood, California.

Career

The pair begin performing together in 2006, after starting out in the electro scene and working from their home studio. Their sound is referred to as “Party Rock”. The group name comes from an online exchange with Sky Blu’s grandmother, who responds to the idea of calling the duo “Sexy Dudes” with “LMFAO”.

LMFAO sign to a venture between Interscope and will.i.am’s label will.i.am music group. Their debut release is the Party Rock EP, which appears in July 2008 and includes the single “I’m in Miami Bitch”. Their first studio album, Party Rock, follows in 2009. A second album, Don’t Judge Me, is planned but not detailed further in the input.

Collaborations and releases

The group features on a number of other recordings, including remixes of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” and Lady Gaga’s “LoveGame”, as well as David Guetta’s “Gettin’ Over You” and Lil Jon’s “Outta Your Mind”. Their own tracks include “La La La”, which reaches number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Shots” featuring Lil Jon. “I’m in Miami Bitch” becomes the theme song for the reality series Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami and also appears in commercials for CSI: Miami. “Get Crazy” is the theme song for Jersey Shore.

Recognition and activity

LMFAO receive a Grammy nomination for Best Electronica/Dance Album and are also described as Grammy Award nominated. They tour with acts including Shwayze, Far East Movement, Paradiso Girls and Space Cowboy, and later tour the United States with the Black Eyed Peas.

Other projects

Beyond music, LMFAO develop a clothing line called Party Rock, distributed online, and create a social networking site under the same branding.
