The X Factor
In his first audition in Cardiff, Cheryl Cole describes him as the first person to have the X Factor that year. She selects him as one of her three finalists in the Boys category. He begins the live shows with a series of steady performances, although some of the song choices are criticised.
He reaches the bottom two in week four with Rachel Adedeji. After singing a version of You Are So Beautiful while suffering from a bad throat, he stays in the competition. The following week, the public vote puts him through again. Across the series, judges and viewers offer mixed reactions, with comments about his pop-star image, his vocal performances, his song choices and his confidence. He is eliminated in week eight after receiving the fewest public votes and finishes fifth overall.
