LLNN

LLNN is a Copenhagen metal group active since 2014. The band’s line-up is Christian Bonnesen, Rasmus Furbo, Victor Kaas, Ketil G. Sejersen and Rasmus Sejersen.

Sound and style

The band’s music combines sludge metal, post-metal, hardcore, post-industrial and rock elements. Its sound is built around heavy guitars and bass, hardcore-driven darkness, buried vocals, pounding drums and prominent synth layers. These synth parts are a major feature of the group’s work and are used to create dense, cinematic soundscapes.

LLNN also draws on soundtrack and sci-fi influences. Ketil G. Sejersen cites composers such as Brad Fiedel, Vangelis, John Carpenter and Stanley Kubrick, as well as games including Silent Hill, Dead Space, Halo and Limbo. The group uses field recordings and post-production processing to shape industrial sounds into its arrangements, including recordings made with tools and machines in a blacksmith setting.

Releases and activity

LLNN debuts with the album Loss in 2016. The record receives critical attention for its raw intensity. The band follows it with Deads in 2018, which presents a more compact but also more complex and organic approach. The group later continues developing the guitar-and-bass axis together with Sejersen’s synth layers on Unmaker.

A split EP with WOVOKA also forms part of the band’s catalogue. The Unmaker release includes a second LP titled Sonic Fragments from Unmaker, which presents only the synth material from the album.

Live activity and reception

LLNN tours Europe with Bison and appears at festivals including Roskilde, Roadburn and Arctangent. The band also attracts attention from film soundtrack composer Peter Albrechtsen, who responds to its use of abstract ambient textures, rhythm and noise.

Themes

Unmaker centres on technology, power structures and their effect on humanity. The album presents progress as something that can also become regression, depending on perspective and standards of judgement.
