Liv Kristine

Liv Kristine is a Norwegian group active since 1997, with a line-up that includes Alexander Krull, Thorsten Bauer, Felix Born and Liv Kristine. Its music sits within gothic rock, pop rock and symphonic metal, and it is associated with gothic metal, female-fronted metal and pop.

Background

The project has Norwegian origins and builds on Liv Kristine Espenæs’s work as a singer in heavy metal and related styles. She is a soprano and has performed and written songs across several subgenres of metal. Before this group, she begins her career as a vocalist with Theatre of Tragedy, first as a backing singer in 1994 and later sharing lead vocals, before leaving in 2003.

Related work and collaborations

From 1996, Kristine lives in Germany and works with the death metal band Atrocity. She marries Atrocity singer Alexander Krull in 2003. Together with members of Atrocity, she forms Leaves' Eyes in 2003 and serves as lead vocalist until 2016. She also releases several solo albums in different genres, with her most recent solo album issued through Napalm Records in 2014.

Notable recognition

In 2005, Kristine receives a Grammy Award nomination for her collaboration with Cradle of Filth on “Nymphetamine”. In 2016, she appears as a session vocalist with Eluveitie for a number of live shows after the departure of Anna Murphy. Later in 2017, she joins Midnattsol, first as a guest on an album and then as a permanent member.
