Little Chief
Little Chief is an American folk band from Fayetteville, Arkansas. The group forms in 2012 around frontman Matt Cooper, who wants to make songs that encourage people to stomp and clap while still carrying lyrical meaning. Cooper has already played numerous shows as a singer-songwriter and performs with cello player Matthew Heckmann, whose sound with him is already established as organic before the band forms.
The lineup expands when the band meets Andrew Myers, a drummer from Fort Smith, through mutual friends and contacts. The three members are college students at the University of Arkansas, and their late-night rehearsals and writing sessions shape the band’s sound. Little Chief plays a wide range of venues and shares bills with acts ranging from singer-songwriters to rap artists.
The band’s debut EP, Somewhere Near The River, is released in 2012.
