Liraz

Liraz Charhi is an Israeli singer, songwriter and actress from HaMerkaz, Israel. She is known for writing and performing songs in Farsi, the language of her family’s native Iran, and for working in electronic, neo-psychedelic and pop styles. Her music combines Eastern instrumentation with Western electronic house rhythms and synthesizers.

Career and style

Before focusing on music, Liraz is already established as an actress in Israel. As a singer, she is not welcomed in Iran, despite her popularity there. Her performances and use of Farsi place her work in a political context, and simply appearing on stage is part of that statement.

Notable song

Her 2019 single “Zan Bezan (Women, Sing)” draws on the tradition of Iranian pop singers such as Googoosh and Ramesh. The song reflects her blend of Iranian melodic influence with contemporary electronic production.
