Liquid
Liquid is a UK electronic group associated with breakbeat hardcore, house, progressive house and rave. The act is centred on Ame, Mitsu and Model. It emerges in 1991 and becomes known for blending classic house with fast, breakbeat-driven rhythms.
Early releases
The group first breaks through with “Sweet Harmony”, a key track in its catalogue. It follows with the Future Music EP, which includes “Liquid Is Liquid”, a dark, atmospheric breakbeat dub track. Shane Heneghan, credited as DJ Model, and Eamon Downes, credited as Ame, are joined on the first three EPs by producer Jezz Wright.
Developing style and releases
After Shane Heneghan leaves following the first two releases, Liquid continues with a reputation for difficult, left-field dancefloor tracks. “Time To Get Up” is a progressive track, while “One Love Family” features balearic elements and flamenco guitar. Both are named as single of the week by Mixmag. The XL Recordings album Liquid Culture draws critical attention and is described as sophisticated, soulful techno, with Mixmag also praising how it works.
Recognition and activity
Liquid achieves top 20 singles in the UK and also records European hit singles. The group performs live internationally across many countries over many years and returns to touring after a period away.
