Lindsey Webster

Lindsey Webster is a jazz vocalist from Woodstock, United States, with roots in the soul and R&B side of the genre. She grows up in Woodstock, New York, where she describes herself as fortunate to have been raised in an environment with a strong focus on arts and music. At school she studies cello in a progressive music programme and plays the instrument for 10 years, often as first chair, before moving to New York City to attend Fiorello H. LaGuardia School for the Music, Art & Performing Arts. As her musical interests develop, she moves from strings to voice.

In 2009, Webster meets Keith Slattery and begins performing professionally with him. The two work with a band of world-class musicians and perform more than 600 shows in venues including Yoshi's Oakland, The Iridium, North Sea Jazz Club, Pizza Express, Levon Helm Studios, Daryl’s House, Helsinki Hudson, The Falcon, The Bitter End and the Bearsville Theater.

Her second album, You Change, brings wider attention and leads to a period of success that includes a vocal-led song reaching number one on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart for four weeks, exceeding the previous record held by Sade. This result draws the interest of Shanachie Entertainment, and she signs with the label for her third album, Back To Your Heart. Her voice is compared with singers including Sade, Mariah Carey and Anita Baker, while her work remains centred on jazz-inflected soul and R&B.
