Linde Nijland is a folk singer and songwriter from the Netherlands. She performs in English and Dutch and is known for a clear vocal style and for songs rooted in folk and harmony singing traditions.

Career

She performs professionally for more than 15 years and first appears as part of the harmony singing duo Ygdrassil, which continues until 2007. She then works as a solo artist and records a body of work that includes 10 albums and 2 DVDs. She tours widely across Europe.

Recordings and repertoire

Her recordings include work with Ygdrassil, the album Linde Nijland sings Sandy Denny, the Dutch-language album Visman, and Winterliederen. She receives notable attention for her interpretations of songs by Sandy Denny, and Joe Boyd comments on the album dedicated to Denny’s music, praising the way it treats the material and highlights Nijland’s voice and taste.

Collaborations and performances

In July 2009 she is invited to take part in an all-star Fairport Convention reunion concert at the Barbican Hall in London, alongside musicians including Richard Thompson. In 2008 she makes an overland journey to Bhutan and performs there for the crowning of the fifth King. The trip later becomes the subject of the DVD/CD A musical journey, which includes performances in Serbia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India and Bhutan.

Later work

Her 2014 album I Am Here is part of her solo catalogue. A music video for her song Traveller, made by Iranian artist Sam Chegini, wins awards at international film festivals in Canada and the United States.
