Lil Yachty is the recording name of Miles Parks McCollum, a rapper from Mableton, United States. Born in 1997, he works in hip hop and southern hip hop, and is also associated with trap and psychedelic rock.

Career

He first draws public attention in 2015 with the viral single “One Night”, which appears on the extended play Summer Songs. He releases his debut mixtape Lil Boat in 2016, then signs a joint venture deal with Motown, Capitol Records and Quality Control Music later that year. His labels also include Concrete Rekordz and Miles McCollum Publishing Designee.

Albums and releases

His debut studio album Teenage Emotions appears in 2017 and reaches number five on the Billboard 200. Lil Boat 2 follows in 2018 and peaks at number two, while Nuthin' 2 Prove also arrives in 2018 and reaches number 12. Lil Boat 3 comes out in 2020 and peaks at number 14.

On Let's Start Here in 2023, he moves away from his earlier hip-hop sound towards psychedelic rock. He then जारीues this direction on the collaborative album Bad Cameo with James Blake in 2024.

Collaborations and recognition

He is also known for guest appearances on DRAM’s 2016 single “Broccoli” and Kyle’s “ISpy”. “Broccoli” earns him a Grammy Award nomination. His early public image includes a light-hearted approach to music and a distinctive red hairstyle.
