Lil Pump

Lil Pump is the stage name of Gazzy Garcia, a US rapper and songwriter from Miami, Florida. Born in 2000, he is associated with hip hop and trap, and he records under Lil Pump and Esskeetit Publishing.

Career

He begins his rap career after meeting Smokepurpp, who becomes a frequent collaborator and friend. After Garcia is expelled from school for fighting in 2016, Smokepurpp asks him to freestyle over a beat he produces, and that performance becomes Lil Pump’s debut self-titled single.

He first gains attention in late 2015 through SoundCloud, where his early tracks gather millions of streams. These include “Elementary”, “Ignorant”, “Gang Shit” and “Drum $tick”, all of which become successful on the platform. His track “Boss”, produced by Diablo, helps him break through more widely the following year and also collects millions of SoundCloud listens while reaching number 101 in the United States.

Breakthrough releases

“D Rose” brings further attention, helped by a music video directed by Cole Bennett, who also works under the name Lyrical Lemonade. The video goes on to attract over 175 million views on YouTube. Lil Pump is best known for “Gucci Gang”, which reaches number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Albums and performances

His discography includes the 2017 self-titled debut album and Harverd Dropout, released in 2019. In 2016, he and Smokepurpp co-headline the No Jumper tour, and he also performs at Rolling Loud.
