Lil Peep is a US rapper and recording artist born Gustav Åhr. He is associated with alternative hip hop, alternative rock, cloud rap, emo, emo rap and hip hop, and is also described as working in lo-fi rap and emo trap. He is linked with Schemaposse and GothBoiClique, and releases music on Lil Peep Music.

Style and significance

He is regarded as one of the main figures behind the post-emo revival, with a style that blends hip hop with the emotional approach of emo and the introspection of post-hardcore. His music draws on southern US rap as well as rock influences, and he is also widely identified as a SoundCloud rapper. The New York Times describes him as the Kurt Cobain of lo-fi rap and characterises his music as gloomy and diabolically melodic.

Releases

In 2015, he releases his first mixtape, Lil Peep Part One, which gets 4,000 plays in its first week. He then releases the EP Feelz and the mixtape Live Forever. In 2016, he releases two key mixtapes, Crybaby and Hellboy. His debut album, Come over When You're Sober, Pt. 1, follows in 2017.
