Lightning Dust
Lightning Dust is a Canadian indie rock band from Vancouver, formed in 2007 and active since then. The group consists of Amber Webber and Joshua Wells, who also perform together in Black Mountain. Lightning Dust begins as a separate project for the pair, with a more stripped-back approach that moves away from the familiar instruments and writing methods they use in their other band.
Sound and early releases
The band’s self-titled debut uses minimal, spacious arrangements and a moody vocal style. It is recorded in a cave and a bright blue house, and many of the songs begin as melodies that Webber has carried for years. The album establishes a sparse, atmospheric sound that sits between indie rock and folk-leaning songwriting.
Infinite Light follows in 2009. In 2013, the band releases Fantasy, an album that adds synthesised sounds, drumming and industrial-leaning instrumental textures to the group’s darker songs. The track “Loaded Gun” later appears in the French television series Série Noire on SRC.
Live work
Lightning Dust performs at Matt Groening’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Minehead, England, in 2010.
