Lifehouse
Lifehouse is an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, United States, active since 1996. The group is led by singer and songwriter Jason Wade and is associated with alternative rock, pop rock, post-grunge, power pop, rock and soft rock.
Formation and early releases
The band’s roots lie in California, where the founding members first come together under the name Blyss in 1999. Under that name, they release a demo album called Diff's Lucky Day. In 2000, they sign to DreamWorks Records. Five tracks from the demo are later re-recorded for the band’s debut album, No Name Face, which becomes multi-platinum.
No Name Face features “Hanging by a Moment”, which becomes a major radio hit and is used as the theme for the 2000 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The group later releases Stanley Climbfall in 2002.
Line-up changes and later albums
The band’s line-up changes several times in the early 2000s. In 2002, Lifehouse consists of Jason Wade on vocals and guitar, Sergio Andrade on bass, Rick Woolstenhulme on drums, and Sean Woolstenhulme on guitar. After touring, Sergio Andrade leaves in 2004, followed by Sean Woolstenhulme. Bryce Soderberg, formerly of AM Radio, joins in late 2004 on bass and vocals.
With Wade, Woolstenhulme and Soderberg as a trio, Lifehouse signs with Geffen Records and releases its self-titled third album in 2005. The single “You and Me” remains on the Billboard Hot 100 for over 60 weeks. The band then releases Who We Are in 2007, with “First Time” issued as a single.
Smoke & Mirrors follows in 2010. “Halfway Gone” is the first single from the album, followed by “All In” and “Falling In”. The album debuts at number six on the Billboard Top 200 and also reaches number one on the iTunes rock album chart for a week. Lifehouse later releases Almería in 2012 and Out of the Wasteland in 2015.
Commercial success and touring
Lifehouse sells more than fifteen million singles and albums worldwide. In 2010, the band tours with Daughtry and Cavo, then plays a short European tour in September before a US Smoke & Mirrors tour in October and November. In 2011, the group says it is working on a new album and performs two UK shows, where it plays a new song called “Angeline”.
