Lia Mice

Lia Mice is an experimental electronic artist and DJ whose live practice combines custom-designed instruments, live voice sampling and an analogue sampler set-up. She works across electro, italo, tech noir, acid and weird dance in high-energy vinyl-hybrid DJ sets that also use live sampling.

Live performance and practice

Her performances include appearances in the UK and internationally at venues such as The Tate Modern in London, The Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and WOMB Nightclub in Tokyo. Her approach brings together analogue samplers, Max/MSP, self-hacked instruments and 8-track tape, and she develops her sound through long-term experiments with a range of technologies.

Release work and influences

Her third solo LP, The Sampler As A Time Machine, is released on Optimo Music and draws on experiments with analogue samplers. She cites influences including the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Laurie Anderson, Harald Grosskopf and Suzanne Ciani, as well as analogue hardware performers such as Laurel Halo, Karen Gwyer and Aïsha Devi.

Other activity

Lia Mice is the resident DJ at ElectrolightsAV and is also a PhD student in Media and Arts Technology at the Augmented Instruments Laboratory, Queen Mary London.
