Lesbian Bed Death
Lesbian Bed Death is a UK gothic metal, gothic rock and hard rock group active since 2004. The band forms in Stoke-on-Trent as a side project and builds its sound around horror themes, with gothic punk and hard rock also central to its style.
Formation and early line-up
The group is founded by guitarist Mr Peach, born Daniel Peach, in 2004. He starts the project as a tribute to the gothic punk, glam and sleaze bands he grows up with. The first line-up also includes Johnny Hell, born John Webb, on vocals, guitar, keys and programming, and Magic Andy, born Andrew Groombridge, on bass. The trio records demos and plays a small number of live shows before Johnny Hell is replaced by Luci4, born Leanne Allister, on lead vocals.
Albums and recordings
The debut album, I Use My Powers For Evil, is recorded at Lizard Lounge Studios in Stoke-on-Trent and produced by Alex Jockel. It includes contributions from members of the live band, among them lead guitarist Chuckmaster C, born Charlie Cooper, and other musicians from the local scene. The album appears in 2006. The band later records Designed By The Devil, Powered By The Dead at Prism Studios in Stoke-on-Trent, with Chuckmaster C covering bass and drums on much of the record after Magic Andy leaves during the sessions. Live drummer Danny Stigmata, born Daniel Heath, plays on the remaining tracks.
After that release, the band issues Riot Of The Living Dead in 2012. The Devil's Bounty Hunters follows, recorded as a trio at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire with Kittie Racchea, born Heather Rowley, on vocals, Mr Peach on rhythm guitar, and Chuckmaster C handling lead guitar, bass and drums. The album is partly funded through crowdfunding and is first delivered to backers before its wider release. Evil Never Dies is recorded at The Chairworks Studios in Castleford with Russ Gwynne, the drummer from the debut album, and appears in 2016. The band then releases Born To Die On VHS in 2019, and The Witching Hour in 2021. It also issues a mini-album of re-recorded tracks and covers called The Plague Sessions.
Line-up changes and later work
Lesbian Bed Death has a long history of changing personnel. Will Power, born William Harris, joins on bass after the recording of Designed By The Devil, Powered By The Dead, then leaves later. After Riot Of The Living Dead, the band becomes a trio again. Following The Devil's Bounty Hunters, Will Power returns and Simon Whitney becomes an unofficial drummer for live dates. That line-up plays in the UK and the Netherlands, including Whitby Goth Festival. The band later reforms around Mr Peach with Vik Voodoo, born Daniel Carden, on lead guitar and Sienna Venom, born Melissa Wood, on vocals for Evil Never Dies, with Aimee Violet on drums for later shows.
For Born To Die On VHS, the band records the single Fury and re-records it when Adele De'Ath, born Adele Smith, replaces Sienna Venom briefly before Luci4 returns. During the same period, Dani J. Rankin leaves and Steve Lethal, born Steve Smith, finishes the lead guitar parts. The group also contributes the song Video Nasty to the soundtrack of the horror film Clownface and acts as main support for The Birthday Massacre on their UK tour in 2017.
Live work and current line-up
The band plays widely in the UK and also performs in the Netherlands and Barcelona. It appears at Whitby Goth Festival and later plays at Carpe Noctum in Leeds with The Skeletal Family. In 2021, Zoey Phoenix replaces Luci4 on vocals and makes her live debut at The Unholy Messtival in Coalville, Leicestershire. That line-up includes Mr Peach, Aimee Violet, Zoey Phoenix, Leisl Heath on bass, and Chris.T on lead guitar.
