Lemoncello

Lemoncello is an Irish duo from Maynooth, County Kildare, made up of Laura Quirke and Claire Kinsella. Quirke sings and plays guitar, while Kinsella plays cello and sings. The pair begin performing together while studying music and languages at Maynooth University in Ireland.

Style and writing

The group builds its sound around cello and guitar, with close vocal harmonies forming the core of the arrangement. Their music draws on traditional and alternative influences and is described through roots-oriented songwriting. Their lyrics focus on human behaviour and personal observation, often using imagery that contrasts the modern and natural world.

Activities and releases

Since forming, Lemoncello play a sold-out show at Musée de La Piscine in Roubaix, France, support Irish songwriters Mick Flannery and Damien Dempsey, and help form Common Grounds Collective, an initiative for musicians of different disciplines to create and present original work in a supportive community setting.

Their debut EP, Stuck Upon the Staircase, appears in 2018 and receives radio play on RTÉ Radio 1 and FM104. They also tour intimate venues across Ireland and perform at Irish festivals including Body and Soul and Other Voices, Ballina.
