Lemonade
Lemonade is an electronic group from San Francisco, United States, made up of Callan Clendenin, Alex Pasternak and Ben Steidel. The trio forms around childhood friendship and first performs in 2005, only two weeks after coming together.
The group begins with an interest in drone music, dancehall, and Pasternak’s background in Arab and Latin music. Their working method relies on spontaneity, improvisation and intuition rather than the structure of a standard rock band. Their sound develops from psych-electronic roots into a wider range of electronic styles, including house, UK grime, dubstep, acid house, minimal techno and early hardcore influences associated with Suburban Bass and XL Recordings.
Lemonade’s music is shaped by a DIY and hardcore sensibility, while also taking in elements of rave culture that are not usually linked with punk scenes. The project is described as exploring an imagined landscape that is both gritty and pristine, tropical and foreboding.
