Career
Raised in Chicago, Foss begins playing the city’s clubs and raves in the late 1990s, which first draws him towards house and disco. A visit to Ibiza in 2001 changes his approach to music and leads to a long working relationship with Jamie Jones. Foss later lives between London and Los Angeles.
He plays at clubs and venues including Fabric in London, Warung in Brazil, The Warehouse Project in Manchester, The Standard Rooftop in Los Angeles, The Marcy Hotel in Brooklyn, Watergate in Berlin and Spybar in Chicago. His early European touring begins in 2009.
Hot Natured and other projects
Foss is a member of Hot Natured with Jamie Jones and Infinity Ink. The group develops alongside a wider circle of producers that includes Richy Ahmed, WaFF, Digitaria, Robert James and Miguel Campbell. Through Hot Natured, Foss helps lead a broader style of emotive house music and appears on the UK charts with “Benediction”.
He also forms Hot Creations with Jamie Jones, and the label becomes a key outlet for his work. Foss works on the wider Paradise event brand with Jamie Jones, Richy Ahmed and Hot Natured. He later joins MK and vocalist Anabel Englund in Pleasure State.
Releases and recognition
Foss releases tracks and EPs including “The Edge EP”, “Equilibrium”, “U Got Me” and “Starfruit EP”, each of which receives Mixmag’s “Tune of the Month” at different points. Other releases include “Electricity” with MK and “Reverse Skydiving”. He also remixes artists including Rudimental and Lana Del Rey.
His releases appear on labels including No. 19, Culprit, Wolf+Lamb and Hot Creations. In Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJs poll, he enters at number 38 in 2010 as the highest new entry, then rises to number 18 in 2011.
Sound and profile
Foss is known for a focused style that combines nu-school house with synth-heavy techno. DJ Mag describes him as one of the notable new forces in modern dance music, and Art Department name him as a favourite producer. His work draws strong support from club audiences in Europe and North America.
