Lee Curtiss

Lee Curtiss is the techno and house producer Lee Meyers, a Western Michigan native and long-time Detroit resident. He begins producing and DJing in the late 1990s, and his work develops around a dark, deep and twisted form of dance music that draws on both house and techno.

Background and style

Growing up between Chicago and Detroit shapes his approach to production and DJing, placing him between the deep house of artists such as Derrick Carter and the techno of Ricardo Villalobos, Zip, Matthew Dear, Peter Ford and Richie Hawtin. His music is described as backwoods, avant-garde and primal, with a sound that combines deep house elements with minimal and techno influences.

Career and recognition

By the time his production work and live PA begin drawing wider attention from techno and house figures, he is already an established underground artist. He tours extensively in the United States and Europe, and his move to Berlin marks a further commitment to touring, production and DJing. He appears on mixes and charts from leading electronic music DJs, and Matthew Dear names him among the key figures of emerging talent in URB magazine’s Next 100.

Festivals and scene presence

Lee Curtiss performs at the 2007 DEMF and Mutek festivals, reflecting his place in the underground electronic music circuit.
