Leatherface

Leatherface is a punk band from Sunderland, United Kingdom, fronted by Frankie Stubbs. Formed in August 1988, the group is named after the villain in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and is active from 1988 to 2012. The line-up includes Dickie Hammond, Andy Crighton, Andrew Laing and Frankie Stubbs.

Career and recordings

The band releases nine full-length albums. Its 1992 album Mush is particularly noted, with music critic and publisher Jack Rabid including it in a list of fifty great punk albums. Leatherface’s ninth full-length album, The Stormy Petrel, appears on the band’s own label, Big Ugly Fish Recordings.

Leatherface is a UK punk band associated with punk and punk rock, and its sound also connects with melodic punk and hardcore. The group is cited as an influence by bands including Hot Water Music and Dillinger Four, particularly within emo and melodic punk circles.
