LE SSERAFIM

LE SSERAFIM is a South Korean k-pop girl group from Seoul, South Korea, formed by SOURCE MUSIC and HYBE. The group is active from 2022 and is signed to SOURCE MUSIC. Its name is an anagram of “I’M FEARLESS” and also refers to seraphim, the heavenly beings with six wings.

Line-up

The group consists of 김가람, 홍은채, HUH YUNJIN, 一葉, 김채원, and 宮脇咲良. It originally debuts as a six-member group, and 김가람 later leaves after the termination of her exclusive contract.

Debut and releases

LE SSERAFIM debuts in 2022 with the EP FEARLESS and its lead single of the same name. The release breaks the record for the highest-selling debut album by a K-pop girl group in first-day sales. Their second EP, ANTIFRAGILE, follows and becomes their first release to sell more than a million copies. It also makes them the fastest K-pop girl group to debut on the US Billboard 200.

Both title tracks reach the top ten of South Korea’s Circle Digital Chart and are certified platinum for streaming in South Korea and Japan. The group later releases a webtoon titled Crimson Heart, based on its message of advancing without fear.

Japanese releases and albums

The group’s first Japanese release is the Japanese version of “FEARLESS” in December 2022. Its first Japanese single album follows in January 2023 and includes Japanese versions of “FEARLESS” and “Blue Flame” alongside the original Japanese song “Choices”, which serves as the theme song for the Japanese drama 3000 Yen: How to Enrich Life.

The first studio album, UNFORGIVEN, is released in 2023 and becomes the group’s first number-one album on the Circle Album Chart and first top-ten album on the Billboard 200. Its singles “UNFORGIVEN” and “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s wife” peak at number two in South Korea and are certified gold for streaming in Japan.

Chart success and collaborations

The group’s first English single, “Perfect Night”, becomes its first number-one song on the Circle Digital Chart and stays at the top for six weeks. In 2024, LE SSERAFIM earns its second number-one album in South Korea and another top-ten Billboard 200 placement with the EP EASY, whose title track is the group’s first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100. English versions of “EASY” and “Smart” are also released.

The group performs at Coachella with Nile Rodgers and debuts “1-800-hot-n-fun” there. It also releases “Dresscode”, the theme song for the Japanese live-action television adaptation of the manga Sexy Tanaka-san. LE SSERAFIM appears at BlizzCon for an in-game event connected to Overwatch 2 and later releases a song in collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment to promote the game.

Later releases

The fourth extended play, CRAZY, follows, with an English version and remixes of its lead single. The group also releases a third Japanese single, “CRAZY”, and later a single album titled SPAGHETTI. A fifth mini album, HOT, is then released, with English and package versions of its title track issued separately. The group’s first world tour, EASY CRAZY HOT, includes Asian dates, North American shows, and encore performances at Tokyo Dome.

Industry recognition

LE SSERAFIM’s music appears on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100, and its releases achieve major sales milestones in South Korea and Japan. The group is also included in a special K-pop exhibit at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles alongside other HYBE artists.
