Le couleur

Le couleur is a Montréal, Canada group whose songs are mainly in French. The band consists of Philippe Beaudin, Steeven Chouinard, Francis Do Monte, Laurence Giroux-Do and Patrick Gosselin. Their sound is described as drawing on synthpop and pop, with comparisons to the kaleidoscopic arrangements of Sébastien Tellier and the energy of Yelle.

Background and releases

Laurence Giroux-Do, the Quebecois-Vietnamese singer, fronts the group and writes about love in its simplest and most complicated forms. Since 2009, Le couleur has released its output on Bandcamp. Its first two EPs build a catchy, intimate style that takes the band to the top of Quebec’s independent radio charts. The group releases its debut album, Origami, in 2010.

Reception and later work

Origami attracts the attention of local critics and press and then gains international notice in 2011, finding listeners in Germany, Italy, Mexico, France and the UK. A remix album follows in 2011. Le couleur later works on the EP Voyage Love, with remixer French Fox brought in to produce the release after the band meets him. Members of French Horn Rebellion also take part in its creation, helping extend the sound of Origami while pushing in a new direction. The group releases music through Coyote Records and remains based in Montréal.
