LD 50
LD 50 is a Polish punk group. It forms in Poland and plays punk rock in a direct, old-school style, with material described as drawing closely on the sound of the 1980s. The band is associated with Warsaw, and its early activity takes place around the period of martial law in Poland.
Formation and early years
The group begins in 1980, after two Piotrs, Myrcha and Jaworski, decide in 1979 to put together a band with a strong message. Its first concerts take place in the early 1980s. By around 1985 the band falls silent.
Return and recording
After roughly 20 years away from the stage, LD 50 returns following a chance meeting between members. At that point none of the members has been active in music, so the material prepared for the album Retropunk is shaped by memories of the 1980s rather than current trends.
Style and repertoire
The band’s music is primarily punk rock, but it also includes reggae, ska and new wave elements. The Retropunk album contains 17 songs that are melodic, simple and unpretentious, with strong performance and steady pacing. The band’s sound is described through tracks such as “Stoen” and “Obudźcie się!”, which are presented as clear, honest and convincing.
Later activity
LD 50 is active as a live act and continues to perform while preparing for a tour and waiting for the first album edition. Its work is associated with the idea that old punk remains relevant.
