Lawrence

Lawrence is the name used by German DJ and producer Peter Kersten, who also records as Sten. He makes minimal techno and electronic music, with work that moves between club-focused tracks and more reflective, home-listening forms.

Background and label work

Kersten starts the Dial label in Hamburg with Carsten Jost and Turner. He begins as a gardener before becoming known for production work, and his interest in nature is reflected in the atmosphere and gradual development of his tracks. His music draws on a range of influences, including Theo Parrish, Gas and Isolée.

Releases

He releases numerous EPs and two albums on labels including Kompakt, Ladomat 2000 and Dial. He also issues the Spark EP on Ghostly International and later releases The Night Will Last Forever on Novamute. These recordings establish his approach to minimal club music and his use of layered textures and shifting moods.
