Lauren Duffus is a London-based producer, vocalist and DJ who begins composing and producing during the first lockdown in spring 2020. Her work grows out of that period of emotional processing, including grief, and she develops a sound that moves between experimental electronic music, ambient textures and dance rhythms.
Early tracks appear on SoundCloud, including “Stir Fry”, which later forms one part of her debut EP SULK. That release contains three experimental, minimalist dance tracks built around reflective, melancholic and hopeful melodies, crying sounds and dancehall drums. She then releases a varied run of tracks and edits that show her style developing in real time.
Among these is “Habits”, released on AD93, a tense and slow-building cinematic dance track that introduces her layered vocal style. Another track, “Permanence”, takes a different approach as an emotive classical piece, featuring a voicemail from her doctor over a tense orchestral arrangement. Her music is described through its mix of playfulness and tenderness, with a sound that feels both heartfelt and cinematic.
She emerges as part of London’s experimental electronic scene, and her stated aims include developing further as a producer and composing for visual art, documentary and film.
